Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira are standing naked in front of the audience and propose an alternative to the structural and political violence that seems to have become a persistent presence in Rio de Janeiro: dance. In this impressive performance, the second part of their joint Repertório-trilogy, dance becomes a self-defense practice and a new way of thinking that deliberately rids itself of the prevailing order and categorisation as well as the accompanying stigmatisation of the body and of being. How can violence be performed in a subversive way that doesn’t simply reproduce its images? In 2022, audiences and jury members alike were captivated by the intense rhythm of Davi Pontes’ and Wallace Ferreira’s dance of self-defense Repertório N2, leading the pair to win the ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ Award.
