Candida Höfer
Candida Höfer is one of the best-known representatives of the Becher School of photography, although she began as a student of film at the Düsseldorf Academy of the Arts. She first worked at Studio Bokelberg in Hamburg, before starting her studies in Düsseldorf in 1973 with the Danish filmmaker Ole John. Three years later she moved into the new photography class led by Bernd Becher. Höfer’s exploration of spaces, such as libraries and other representative buildings, can also be related to the conditions of exhibiting: “Presentation is just as important to me as producing pictures. I always found projections an important element in forms of presentation” (Candida Höfer). mumok cinema is showing Höfer’s first film work da forno 1975 (1975), which was made together with Tony Morgan, and several more recent works as projections.
