Film Titel Video

Film Titel Video

Without a film there are no opening titles. This is not true in the reverse, so the logic of the format. The design of film titles involves the most diverse design approaches, film interests and disinterests, conventions, divisions of responsibilities, hierarchies of production, and time-based techniques, all of which make up a form that has to be reinvented afresh as it depends on the parameters of each new production. Even if there are some “classics”, emblematic solutions, “typical” approaches and run-of-the-mill standards, instead of a history of film titles we can only look at recurring patterns. This video compilation is aimed as a survey of the interfaces between significance, genre specific approaches, idiosyncratic interests, average consumer knowledge, selective research, and the demands of the market. As a possible “Best of …” version of a genre that as such does not exist. (Program announcement Depot Vienna, 1997).
