Emília Rigová

Nane Oda Lavutaris / Who will play for me?

Emília Rigová

Curated by Rainer Fuchs

In her exhibition  Nane Oda Lavutaris / Who will play for me?, the artist Emília Rigová, born in Slovakia, explores the history and the present-day experiences of the Roma. In an installation with pianos she refers to the musical heritage of the Roma and the tensions between self-image and external perception that this music embodies.

Rigová’s works are based on social research and analysis. They sometimes take the form of performances and installations in public spaces and can also be seen as forms of political activism. One of their aims is to deconstruct stereotypical role images and prejudices that are determined by majority society.
