The Reference is Super – Moving Image Essays in Context
Is it possible to have an argumentative film in a state of being beside yourself? Glauber Rocha called his last film, A Idade da terra (The Age of the Earth) an “anti-symphony," with voices that are intended to come together to make music but fail to harmonize. Four messiah figures compete against each other and combine motifs from Brazilian history with the political dreams and nightmares from Rocha’s postcolonial cinema of liberation to create fantastic images of thought that never find peace.
Presented by Diedrich Diederichsen.
