Ludwig goes Digital!

Ludwig goes Digital!

Participatory research and education of the Ludwig Collection at the mumok

About the project

Together with children and young adults, mumok’s Collection and Education Department focuses on participatory collection research within the framework of courses and workshops. Based on the principle of Citizen Humanities, museum processes will be analyzed and the collection holdings of the Ludwig Foundation will be explored.

In collaboration with the course participants, we will develop digital projects that always start from the specific artwork. The group will discuss and reflect upon content-related topics, artists’ biographies, visual design concepts, art theory aspects, and the history of the collection.

The concepts, contents and information developed in this process will in turn be integrated into the documentation of the mumok collection.

In addition, visualizations of the collection's holdings will be designed in a co-creation process using the data and information developed and will be made accessible to visitors in the form of a digital service.

Aim of the project

Through participatory research, we want to discuss art within the realities of young people's lives and thereby give them the opportunity to get to know museum processes, to actively participate in shaping them, and to make them visible. This way, the mumok would also like to contribute to the democratization processes within art historical research.

Symposium

On October 7, 2024, the Symposium Ludwig goes digital! will take place, which will focus on citizen humanities and digital, participatory collection research. As part of the Ludwig goes digital! project funded by the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation, we will be working with the young participants of our Creative Learning Coding courses on museum collection practice, artworks and artists based on the principles of Citizen Humanities.
