Synästhesieraum

Installation ‘Synaesthesia Room’ is a joint work by Hermann Nitsch and Frank Gassner that invites you to a sensual audio-visual experience. Whether in music or painting, in both cases Nitsch speaks of colours and tones, of harmonies and dissonances. During his time teaching in Frankfurt, Hermann Nitsch developed ‘colour and form experiments’ with his students. The resulting ‘colour scales’ illustrated harmonic relationships and constellations, which are also an essential part of the Orgien Mysterien Theater. These do not only exist within a medium; in a synaesthetic sense, sounds, tastes and smells can be assigned to the colours. Only the synaesthesia of sensory impressions leads to the experience of the total work of art.
